God’s Treasure – Encouragements from Deuteronomy Pt. 3
January 18, 2026 – Deuteronomy 7
ICE BREAKER: Share one object you own that has zero practical value but you deeply treasure. Why do you keep it?
Read Deuteronomy 7:6–8. What stands out to you about the three identity words: holy, chosen, treasured possession? Which one is hardest for you to believe about yourself—and why?
The Hebrew word for “treasured possession” means “personal treasure kept close.” How does understanding this deepen your view of God’s love? Does it challenge any old assumptions you had about God’s posture toward His people?
Compare Deuteronomy 7:6 with 1 Peter 2:9–10. What similarities do you see in how God defines His people in both Testaments? What does this say about God’s consistent heart?
Read Deuteronomy 7:7. God chose Israel not because of their greatness, but because of His love. Why do you think humans struggle with a love that isn’t based on performance or worthiness?
When does being “chosen” tend to lead to pride? When does it lead to humility, gratitude, and surrender?
Read Luke 7:36–50. Which character do you relate to more—Simon the Proud Host or the Broken Woman Who Knew She Was Loved? Why?
The message emphasized: “Your identity is not earned. It is given.” Where in your life do you still feel like you have to perform to be valuable—to God or to people?
Read Deuteronomy 7:11. If God’s love is unearned and secure, why does obedience still matter? What should be our motivation to submit and obey God if it is not to gain favor with Him?
What is one thing God is asking you to start doing, stop doing, or keep doing?
How did God use this message to teach, train, challenge, convict, or encourage you?
